Gophers Take Down Warriors, Improve to 3-0

Three Freshmen Stay Unbeaten in Singles Play for Goucher

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — There are three freshmen who have been in Goucher's singles lineup for all three matches so far this season and each one is now 3-0 following victories they achieved today as the Gophers were dealing Lycoming a 7-2 setback.

Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) picked up her third singles win in as many tries as she knocked off Lycoming's Dani Nazaruk 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Alexandra Walsh (Greens Farms, Conn./Staples) and Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) joined Lin at 3-0: Walsh came out on top of Shannon Sheridan 7-6 (2), 6-0 at No. 4 and Turner defeated Abbey Smith 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5.

In Lindsey Libaw (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads), the Gophers (3-0) had a fourth freshman secure a win for them during the singles competition. Libaw registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Emily Zangara at No. 2.

At No. 1 singles, Lycoming's Megan Gardner knocked off Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) 6-4, 6-1, but Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) earned a point for Goucher with her 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Ellen Phillips at No. 6.

The Warriors (0-1) picked up their other point at No. 1 doubles where Gardner and Nazaruk got the best of Lee and Libaw, 8-1. Lin and Turner combined for an 8-2 win over Sheridan and Zangara at No. 2, while Casey and Walsh downed Smith and Phillips at No. 3, 8-3.
