Gophers Solidify Hold on Top Spot in Landmark Standings

Lin, Lee Improve to 10-2 at No. 1 Doubles in 2012-13
MADISON, N.J. -- Goucher maintained sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference by taking down Drew, 9-0, this afternoon.
The return of Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and Alex Walsh (Greens Farm, Conn./Staples) from injuries boosted the Gophers' chances for success against the Rangers (0-5, 0-3 Landmark). Lin, who missed the St. Mary's (Md.) match earlier this week, posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Chelsea Lipp at No. 1 singles and joined with Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) to earn an 8-3 win over Lipp and Seanna Williams at No. 1 doubles.
Lin and Lee are now 10-2 this season when playing together at No. 1.
Walsh, who missed the last three matches, was at No. 3 in Goucher's singles lineup where she pinned a 6-4, 7-6 (4) setback on Williams. During the doubles competition, she and Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) combined for a 8-3 triumph over Sofia Madrigal and Yiyi Rodriguez.
Lee defeated Madrigal 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Maxwell topped Alexandra Scarborough 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton) finished off Riodriguez 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) prevailed over Leslie Monroy 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
At No. 3 doubles, Cianci and Hanora Barron (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) came away with an 8-4 win over Scarborough and Kirby Clark as the Gophers (9-3, 3-0 Landmark) improved to 32-16 in doubles play in 2012-13.
