ASTON, Pa. — Goucher picked up its second win in as many matches this fall by pinning a 9-0 setback on Neumann today.
It was the Gophers' second 9-0 triumph over the Knights (3-4) since the two teams waged an epic battle back on Sept. 9, 2009. That day it took a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win by Vickey Casey at No. 6 singles to even the overall match at 4-4 and then a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) victory by Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) at No. 4 for Goucher to prevail 5-4.
That happened to be the first singles match of Lee's collegiate career. She's now a senior and she was a winner in both singles and doubles for the Gophers (2-0) today. Playing at No. 2 in the singles lineup, she registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Neumann's Sarah Schroeder.
Lee was partnered with Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) at No. 1 doubles for Goucher and they defeated Neumann's Breanne Klar and Schroeder, 8-3.
Lin was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Klar at No. 1 singles.
Alex Walsh (Greens Farm, Conn./Staples) came out on top of Gabrielle Porcelli 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) bested Teresa Kozin 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) polished off Cherie Allen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
The only singles match which wasn't over in two sets was at No. 6 where Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton) came back from being a set to knock off Neumann's Heather Nicholson 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-5).
