MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Not only did Goucher add another win to its 2012-13 resume today by knocking off Penn St. Harrisburg, 9-0, but the Gophers also managed to stay perfect in both singles and doubles play so far this season.
Just as they were in the first two matches, Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) were deployed at No. 1 doubles today and they notched their third win by topping Gabrielle LeGendre and Theodora Avramidis, 8-4.
Lin met up with LeGendre again at first singles and the sophomore recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory to improve her career record in singles play to 22-1. Lee was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Avramidis at No. 2.
Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) became the first player on the team with three singles wins to her credit in 2012-13 when she polished off Alejandra Portillo 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
Adding in victories by Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) at No. 4, Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton) at No. 5 and Rebecca Bell (London, England/Tanglin Trust) at No. 6, the Gophers (3-0) improved to 14-0 in singles matches this season. Turner defeated Casey Stetler 3-6, 7-6 (0), 1-0 (6); Ruff came out on top of Tricia Stone 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (7), and Bell turned back Amanda Herr 6-0, 6-2.
The Lions (0-3) won at least twice in singles play in both of the matches they competed in prior to facing head coach Sally Baum's squad today.
