TOWSON, Md. — Goucher made it through the fall portion of its 2012-13 schedule undefeated by turning back York, 6-3, this afternoon.
The Gophers (4-0), who will resume their season in March, used wins by Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) at No. 1 and Alex Walsh (Greens Farm, Conn./Staples) and Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) at No. 2 to open up a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play. Lin and Lee topped Megan McCullin and Dea Vlahos, 8-4, which is the same score by which Walsh and Maxwell came out on top in their confrontation with Nikki Olsen and Emily Price.
Lin, Walsh and Maxwell also accounted for three of the four points Goucher picked up during the singles competition. Lin, playing at No. 1, defeated Vlahos 6-1, 6-1; Walsh polished off Olsen 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and Maxwell was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Price at No. 4.
Once the Gophers earned their fifth point and victory over the Spartans (2-3) was assured, the two teams agreed that the two players slated to battle at No. 6 singles would play only a pro set. Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton) was victorious, beating Emily Skutnik, 8-3.
