YORK, Pa. — Goucher found itself in a 2-1 hole against York at the conclusion of doubles play this afternoon. Although a solid victory at No. 1 singles by junior transfer Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Tech) gave the Gophers some hope, the Spartans would to go on to claim four of the remaining five singles matches on the way to a 6-3 triumph.
Prior to her 6-0, 6-0 win over Dea Vlahos at first singles, Bercovici helped the Gophers (0-1) earn their only point in the doubles competition by partnering with Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) at No. 1 and coming out on top against Darian Naill and Mckenzie Krout, 8-0.
The second point Goucher picked up in singles play came at No. 4 where Alice Goldstein-Plesser (Durham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts) defeated Nikki Olson 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The win was the first for the Spartans (2-0) over the Gophers since September 29, 2010.
