TOWSON, Md. — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its preseason Division III rankings today and Goucher's Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Tech) was listed as the 24th ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region.
With the ranking, Bercovici becomes the first player in program history to be recognized regionally by the ITA.
"She's had a couple of particularly tough matches, and she just finds ways to win," head coach Sally Baum said. "She just has a great mindset for matches. She's in some elite company on that list, and I think she has the opportunity to continue to move up."
Bercovici ended the fall season with a 9-1 record in singles, including wins in her last six matches. Her only defeat came to Amanda Austi from Johns Hopkins in the round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships. Austi is currently ranked fourth in the region by the ITA.
A junior transfer from Washington (Md.), Bercovici was also a two-time Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week earlier in the fall. During her time with the Shorewomen, the ITA ranked her as high as eighth in the region.
Goucher concluded the fall with a 2-2 record. The Gophers begin their spring season on March 8 at Salisbury. The next ITA rankings will be released on March 4.
