TOWSON, Md. — Goucher extended its winning streak against Drew to four matches and picked up its first Landmark Conference victory of the season by turning back the Rangers, 7-2, this afternoon.
The Gophers (8-8, 1-2 Landmark) went into singles play with a 3-0 lead as they prevailed in all three doubles matches for the fifth time in 2013-14. The most dominant performance during the doubles competition came from Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Tech) and Alex Walsh (Greens Farm, Conn./Staples) at No.1 as they pinned an 8-1 setback on Sofia Madrigal and Jessica Cheng.
The other two doubles matches ended up 8-6 in Goucher's favor. Getting the wins were Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) and Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) at No. 2 and Hanora Barron (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton) at No. 3.
Cianci put the Gophers up 4-0 when she completed her 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Drew's Alexandra Scarborough at No 4 singles and Bercovici earned the point that sealed the win by defeating with her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Madrigal at No. 1.
The Rangers (1-4, 1-3 Landmark) battled back to prevail at No. 2 and No. 3 before Ruff disposed of Kirby Clark 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and Ryan Derham (San Anselmo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) topped Leslie Monroy 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
