HUNTINGDON, Pa. — After being swept in doubles play, Goucher came back to win three singles matches in a 6-3 loss to Juniata in a Landmark Conference match this afternoon.

The Gophers (5-8, 1-5 Landmark) picked up their first point of the match when Heather Waring, who was leading Alex Walsh (Greens Farm, Conn./Staples), 3-2, in the first set, retired.

The second point, which made the score 4-2 in favor of the Eagles (11-5, 5-2 Landmark) was earned by Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton), who pinned a 6-1, 6-2 setback on Mitsuki Koh at No. 3. The next match to finish was No. 6 and a 6-3, 6-3 victory by Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) over Emma Sebastian further reduced Goucher's deficit to 4-3.

Juniata, however, got the win it needed to sew up the overall match at No. 4. Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) won the opening set, but Tori Gray came back to prevail 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

An 8-5 win by Waring and Rachel Yurchisin over Walsh and Cianci at No. 1 completed the sweep of the doubles matches and provided the Eagles with a 3-0 lead aheading into singles play.
