Baum's Gophers Turn Back Bobcats in Final Fall Match

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher concluded the fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule this afternoon by turning back Frostburg St., 7-2.

After sweeping the three doubles matches, the Gophers (3-1) went into singles play needing just two wins to wrap up the overall match. They got the first when Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) defeated Ashley Smith 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.

The Bobcats (0-3) picked up their first point of the match at No. 2 singles where Kaitlin Lemmert downed Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) 6-2, 6-1, but a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win by Alice Goldstein-Plesser (Durham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts) over Kayla Kirk at No. 1 sealed the home team's victory.

Also winning for Gucher in singles play were Mackenzie Donohue (Bronx, N.Y./Frank McCourt) at No. 5 and Amber Penaloza (Damascus, Md./Damascus) at No. 6. Donohue knocked off Kennedy Logsdon 6-2, 6-2, while Penaloza took out Moriah King 6-4, 6-2.
