Gophers Drop 9-0 Spring Break Battle with Knights

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Playing for the first time since October 10, Goucher was handed a 9-0 setback by Calvin tonight in a match at Oak Street Park.

The Gophers (3-2) were able to win only three games during the doubles competition, all at No. 1. Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) and Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) put up a fight, but were beaten by Claire Spoelhof and Jessica Bouma, 8-3.

Spoelhof and Cianci met again at No. 1 and Bouma faced Oehrig at No. 2 during singles play. Spoelhof was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Cianci; Bouma defeated Oehrig 6-1, 6-0.

Micaela Seazzu turned back Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Tonight's match was the first of three the Gophers are scheduled to play during their Spring Break training trip.

The Knights (5-2) arrived in Florida ahead of head coach Sally Baum's squad and this was their third Spring Break match.
