TOWSON, Md. — Goucher was one point away from winning its first Landmark Conference match of the season but Susquehanna took the final three singles matches en route to a 5-4 victory this afternoon.
- Manning the No. 1 singles spot for the Gophers (3-6, 0-1 Landmark), Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) placed a 6-1, 6-4 setback on Alyssa Fleischman.
- Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) earned her team-leading, fourth win for Goucher with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Eliza Griffin at No. 4 singles.
- The Crusaders (5-5, 1-0 Landmark) triumphed in the remaining four singles matches, the closest, for Goucher, was between Miranda Egan-Brooks (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bard High School Early College) and Megan Rudloff. Egan-Brooks bowed, 7-6 (11-9), 6-4.
- The Gophers took two of the three matches in doubles play. Cianci and Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) earned a 8-5 win, while Tomasevich and Meera Balasubramanian (Bel Air, Md./Oldfields School) finished off Rudloff and Julia Spear, 8-4.
Landmark action continues for Goucher as the team travels to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday for a match against Moravian. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
