Gophers Fall 9-0 in First of Weekend's Two Matches

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) and Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) gave the opponent's No. 1 doubles team a run for its money today, but their 8-6 loss to Brittney Eady and Skyler Oliwa put Goucher in a 3-0 hole against Moravian. The Greyhounds went on to sweep the six singles matches and earn a 9-0 Landmark Conference victory over head coach Sally Baum's squad.

  • Eady was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Cianci at first singles.
  • Moravian's Grace Bailly prevailed in a tiebreaker, 7-2, to win the first set against Meera Balasubramanian (Bel Air, Md./Oldfields School) at sixth singles and completed her victory by taking the second set, 6-4.
  • The Greyhounds (6-4, 2-1 Landmark) won all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Gophers (3-7, 0-2 Landmark) left immediately after today's match for Madison, N.J., where they'll take on Drew in a Landmark Conference match tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m.
