STEVENSON, Md. — Down to its final opportunity to pick up a win during the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule, Goucher was victorious in all six singles matches for the first time all season and that produced a 9-0 triumph over Stevenson.
Today's win over the Mustangs (0-15) was the first for head coach Sally Baum's squad since the Gophers knocked off Frostburg State, 7-2, back on October 10.
- After they earned an 8-2 win over Colleen Martin and Ashlyn Hawbaker at first doubles, Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) and Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) went their separate ways and secured two more points for the Gophers (4-12) in singles play. Cianci, the only senior in Goucher's singles lineup, blanked Hawbaker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1; Oehrig was a 6-4, 6-1 winners over Ty-Chelle Williams at No. 2.
- Baum had three freshmen playing singles today: Miranda Egan-Brooks (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bard High School Early College) topped Colleen Martin 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) turned back Christina Endy 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, and Meera Balasubramanian (Bel Air, Md./Oldfields School) polished off Sara Tarbert 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) at No. 6.
- At No. 5 singles, Mackenzie Donohue (Bronx, N.Y./Frank McCourt) needed only two sets to take down Kaityn VanTash, winning 6-4, 6-2.
The Gophers ended an 11-match losing streak by winning the final match of the season.
