Women's Tennis Falls to Catholic on Senior Day
Sophomore Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa.) pulled out the only win for the Gophers at No. 5 singles in an 8-1 loss to Catholic at home during senior day on Wednesday afternoon.
TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa.) pulled out the only win for the Gophers at No. 5 singles in an 8-1 loss to Catholic at home during Senior Day on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gophers fell behind 3-0 after doubles play despite a strong battle at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. The senior duo of Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md.) and Alice Goldstein-Plesser (Durham, N.C.) played Laura Torsiello and Sarah MacLean to a 9-8 (7-5) loss at No. 1 singles. Fellow senior Amber Penaloza (Damascus, Md.) paired up with Tomasevich to take an 8-5 loss at No. 3 singles.
In singles play junior Mackenzie Donohue (Bronx, N.Y.) took Erin Cole to the set tie-breaker, falling 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). The Gophers continued to fall in order during singles play before Tomasevich toppled Faith Tamuleviz taking down the senior 6-3, 6-3 in the last match of the evening.
