Goucher Women's Tennis Earns Fourth-Straight Win With Victory Against Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. –  The Goucher College women's tennis team is heating up at the right time after the Gophers secured its fourth-straight victory with a 9-0 decision against Juniata College in Landmark Conference action on Saturday.

Goucher clinched a spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament with its win at Susquehanna on April 13 and the team knew that it would be traveling to top seed Moravian College for the semifinals on May 1 at 4 p.m. With the win against the Eagles, the Gophers clinched its first conference winning season since 2013, which is also the last time the squad participated in the postseason.

Anais Gill (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) and Mandile Mpofu (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) won at No. 1 doubles, 8-3 and Haddie Hill (San Antonio, Texas/The Episcopal School of Texas) and Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) earned an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles. Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and Morgan Hartman (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Gill (6-3, 6-3), Mpofu (6-1, 6-0), Hill (6-1, 6-3) Hartman (6-2, 6-1) each won at No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 singles. Katie Marzerka (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) took care of business at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0 and Sara Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) earned a 7-5, 6-0 win to complete a 9-0 win. 

Gill, the current Landmark Conference Player of the Week, improved to 5-2 in conference singles and 5-2 at No. 1 doubles with Mpofu (5-1) as her main partner. The Gophers lost to Moravian in the regular season meeting with the Gill-Mpofu tandem earning an 8-1 win.

Goucher wraps up the regular season with its final tuneup for the Landmark Conference Tournament at Immaculata University on Friday. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
