Dhillon-DiGiovanni Tandem And Hartman Notch First Goucher Wins At Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center
BALTIMORE, Md. – The doubles team of Anais Dhillon (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) and Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa./Dover), along with Morgan Hartman (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) will be the answer to a trivia question one day. Who were the first Goucher players to win the first doubles and singles matches at Evelyn Dyke Schoedl '62 Tennis Center?
The Goucher College women's tennis team played the first women's collegiate women's tennis match at the brand-new Tennis Center against Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday.
Dhillon and DiGiovanni, who won their doubles match last week at Juniata, won at No. 1 singles 8-5 for the first doubles Gopher victory on the courts. Hartman then won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to notch the first Blue and Gold singles win at the Tennis Center.
It was Hartman's first victory since the 2018-19 season after studying abroad for the fall of 2019. The senior improves to 15-9 in singles play in her career.
Aaliyah Ybarra (Bastrop, Texas/Cedar Creek) lost in three sets but won her first collegiate set on the afternoon. After falling 6-2 in the first set, the freshman took the second set by the same score of 6-2 for her first set win and to send the match to a third set. Ybarra lost the third set, 10-5.
Ybarra and Hartman lost 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Dhillon fell 8-6 at No. 1 singles, and DiGiovanni dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match at No. 4 singles. Susquehanna won the match, 7-2.
Goucher returns to action on Wednesday at Catholic. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
