Goucher Athletics Announces Robert Lewand Team Academic Award
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College women's tennis team has been named the Robert Lewand Team Academic Award winner after posting a 3.73 grade-point average. The squad has earned the honor for the fifth straight year.
The Robert Lewand Team Academic Achievement Award is presented annually to the athletics team whose members achieved the highest grade point average over the previous two semesters.
"This year brought many challenges for our student-athletes both on and off the court, and women's tennis was no exception to that, however, I am proud to say that for the fifth-straight year, we have the highest team GPA among Goucher athletes," said head coach Steve Baum. "I am proud of the work that you have been able to do and proud to be your coach."
"I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the women's tennis team," said senior Morgan "Momo" Hartman. "It's an honor to accept this award for the fifth year in a row, and I am so proud of all the women on the team for putting in the effort in one of the most difficult tennis seasons in my career."
While women's tennis won the academic award, some other Gophers teams have also excelled in the classroom over the last two semesters. Field hockey (3.56 GPA), women's soccer (3.43 GPA), women's volleyball (3.38 GPA), equestrian (3.30 GPA), women's lacrosse (3.28 GPA), swimming (3.26 GPA), women's golf (3.24 GPA), men's soccer (3.24 GPA) and cross country (3.22 GPA), also boasted outstanding grade-point averages over this time. Goucher athletics as a whole a grade-point average of 3.21 for the last two semesters.
