Gophers Ground Seahawks in Opener

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule with a 6-1 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.

The Gophers (1-0) swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.  At No. 1, Natalia Navarro and Meline Siggen prevailed 7-6 in a tiebreaker.  Eliza Abady and Lucy Ingraham registered a 6-4 win at No. 2, while the senior duo of Sarai Oquendo Silveira and Shelby Meek were 6-1 victors at No. 3.

Goucher took five of six singles matches from the Seahawks (0-1).  Siggen won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.  Abady was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 3, while at No. 4, Ingraham posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.

Meek and Oquendo Silveira each won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Goucher is back in action Wednesday afternoon when it travels to 2024 MAC Commonwealth semifinalist Messiah University for a 4 pm match.
