BALTIMORE, MD.- Goucher hosted their season opener against Ursinus College in a non-conference match-up. The Bears took the day 4-3 after a close fight from the Gophers.
The No. 3 doubles of Lydia Hurst and Kendra Lanese finished first, falling 6-0 to the Ursinus team. The No. 2 doubles team, consisting of Lucy Ingraham and Alexa Benedict, won their match 6-3. Lastly, the No. 1 doubles finished last with the pairing of Natalia Navarro and Meline Siggen winning the match 6-4.
The first two singles matches, No. 5 Hurst (6-1, 6-0) and No. 6 Lanese (6-1, 6-1), were wins for the Bears. Siggen was the first singles win for the Gophers in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Closely following Navarro wins her match (6-2, 6-3). Ursinus takes No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
The Gophers will return to action on Saturday, October 11, at home.
