Gophers Tops Riverhawks 5-2 in Conference Opener

SELINSGROVE, PA - The Goucher Women's Tennis team (1-5 overall; 1-0 conference) traveled to face the Riverhawks of Susquehanna University (4-5 overall; 1-2 conference) for their first Landmark Conference matchup of the season, earning a 5-2 victory.

In singles play, Natalia Navarro secured the No. 1 spot in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Meline Siggen followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Lucy Ingraham dominated at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Alexa Benedict continued the Gophers' momentum at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. Kendra Lanese dropped the No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-1. Rounding out singles play, Nini Kandelaki fell at No. 6 in a tiebreak decision, 7-5, 6-1, 8-1.

In doubles play, the Gophers claimed two of three matches to earn the point. The No. 1 team of Navarro and Siggen won decisively, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Ingraham and Benedict edged out their opponent in a 7-5 victory. The No. 3 team of Lanese and Kandelaki fell, 6-0.

The Gophers return to action on Sunday, March 22, when they host Dickinson at 1 pm.
