Women Finish With Strong Singles Performances Against Juniata

BALTIMORE, MD- The Goucher Women's Tennis team (1-9 overall, 1-2 conference) hosted the Eagles of Juniata College (5-2 overall, 1-0 conference) at the Twin Lakes Racquet Club. After strong singles performances, the Gophers fell 4-3 to the Eagles. 

In singles play, No. 1 Natalia Navarro trailed 4–0 before she retired from the match. Meline Siggen, playing at No. 2 singles, won in straight sets, 6–1, 6–1. At No. 3 singles, Lucy Ingraham earned a comeback victory after dropping the first set, 6–1, before winning the second set, 6–2, and the match tiebreaker, 6–1. Alexa Benedict was victorious at No. 4 singles, winning 6–4, 6–1. Nini Kandelaki fell at No. 5 singles, 6–3, 6–2, while Kendra Lanese dropped the No. 6 singles match in straight sets, 6–1, 6–2.

In doubles play, Juniata won two of the three matches. The No. 1 team of Siggen and Ingraham fell, 7–5, while the No. 2 pair of Benedict and Kandelaki lost, 6–2. The No. 3 team of Lanese and Hurst earned Goucher's lone doubles victory, 6–4.

The Gophers return to action on Sunday, March 29, when they host Elizabethtown College in their second conference match of the weekend.
