Goucher Tops Elizabethtown in Landmark Matchup

BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher Women's Tennis team (2–8 overall, 1–2 conference) hosted the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College (2-6 overall, 0–5 conference) on Sunday afternoon. The Gophers won 6-1 to secure their first conference win of the season.

In singles play, No. 1 Meline Siggen won in straight sets, 6–0, 6–2, while No. 2 Lucy Ingraham earned a 6–0, 6–0 victory. The Gophers maintained their momentum as No. 3 Alexa Benedict recorded a 6–1, 6–0 win. Lydia Hurst, competing at No. 4 singles, fell 6–2, 6–4. Goucher finished singles play strong, with No. 5 Kendra Lanese winning in a tiebreaker, 5–7, 6–4, 10–6, while No. 6 Nini Kandelaki swept her opponent, 6–0, 6–1.

The Gophers won the doubles point by securing two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 pair of Ingraham and Siggen earned a dominant 6–0 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of Benedict and Kandelaki followed with a 6–1 win. The No. 3 pair competed in a tight match but ultimately fell 6–3 to Elizabethtown.

The Gophers will return to action on Tuesday, April 7, when they travel to Shenandoah for a 4 p.m. start. Goucher will return home on Sunday, April 12, to host Wilkes in a 12 p.m. contest.
