Navarro Leads Goucher at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA - The Goucher College Gophers (2-9 overall, 2-2 conference) traveled to face the Hornets of Shenandoah University (4-8 overall, 1-3 conference) to compete in a non-conference match. Despite a singles win, the Hornets took down the Gophers 6-1.

In singles play, No. 1 Natalia Navarro was the Gophers' sole winner, earning a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-3. No. 2 Lucy Ingraham won the first set, 7-5, before dropping the next two sets, 6-3, 6-1. Alexa Benedict fell 6-3 in the first set before winning the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4). However, Shenandoah claimed the final set, 6-4. No. 4 Nini Kandelaki fell 6-2, 6-3, while No. 5 Lydia Hurst lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The Gophers did not have a player in the No. 6 singles and forfeited the point.

In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of Navarro and Ingraham fell 6-3, while the No. 2 duo of Benedict and Hurst lost 6-4. Goucher forfeited the No. 3 doubles match.

The Gophers return to action on April 11 when they travel to Moravian for a conference matchup at 2pm. Goucher's next home match is scheduled for April 12 against Wilkes at 12pm.
