BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers Women's Tennis team (4-11 overall, 2-3 Landmark) hosted the Colonels of Wilkes University (4-7 overall, 1-3 Landmark) in a tight conference contest. The Gophers put up a strong fight, but the Colonels edged them by one point, 4–3.
In singles play, No. 1 Natalia Navarro fell in straight sets, 6–1, 6–0. No. 2 Meline Siggen swept her match, 6–0, 6–4, while No. 3 Lucy Ingraham earned a hard-fought win in a tiebreaker, 6–2, 1–6, 7–6 (13-11). At No. 4, Alexa Benedict was victorious, 6–0, 6–2. Rounding out the Gophers lineup, No. 5 Nini Kandelaki lost 6–4, 6–2, and No. 6 Kendra Lanese fell 6–1, 6–0.
The Colonels earned the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of Navarro and Siggen lost 6–3, while the No. 2 pair of Benedict and Ingraham were the lone doubles winners, 6–4. The No. 3 team of Lanese and Hurst dropped their match, 6–1.
The Gophers return to action on Wednesday, April 15, when they travel to Lycoming for a 3pm matchup. The team returns home on Saturday, April 18, to host Scranton in a 1 p.m. contest.
