Goucher's DMR Earns All-Landmark Honors

Gophers Beat Out Merchant Marine for Fifth Place

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Goucher finished in fifth place ahead of Merchant Marine today at the inaugural Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The team title went to Moravian, which finished with a team score of 213 points. Susquehanna was second with 129 points, followed by Juniata (92 points) in third, Catholic (48) in fourth, Goucher (32) in fifth and Merchant Marine (7) in sixth.

Goucher's distance medley relay earned all-conference honors with a second-place performance. A quartet composed of Becky Foner (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth), Samantha Solomon (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills), Kate Young (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) and J. Fraley Coles (The Plains, VA/Highland School) completed the event in 14:35.52.

Goucher had an individual place as high as third place in an event: Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton) in the triple jump where her top effort was 33-feet, 3.25-inches.

Dana Macaluso (Huntington, NY/Huntington) placed fourth in the 200-meter dash and was also part of Goucher's 4 x 200-meter relay that wound up in fourth place. She set a new indoor school record with her time of :27.43 in the 200; the 4 x 200 unit which also included Newman-Blount, Dayna Mizzer (Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert) and Catherine Abbondonza (Yarmouth, ME/North Yarmouth Academy) finished in 1:56.05, another new indoor school record.

Macaluso also earned points for the Gophers and broke the indoor school record with her performance of 16-feet, 5-inches in the long jump.

Mizzer and Abby Cooney (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) finished in sixth place in the high jump and weight throw, respectively. Mizzer cleared 4-feet, 6-inches; Cooney tossed the weight 28-feet, 2.25-inches.

Goucher entered two more relays, taking fourth place (4:33.76) in the 4 x 400-meters and fifth place (11:50.16) in the 4 x 800-meters.
