Gophers Beat Out Five Teams for Second Place
Time of :51.71 in 4 x 100-Meter Relay Breaks School Record

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Goucher beat out five other teams to finish as the runner-up to Gettysburg at today's Mason-Dixon Invitational.
In winning the team title, the Bullets accumulated 351 points. The Gophers were second with 85 points, followed by Frostburg St. (60 points) in third, Catholic (55) and McDaniel (55) tied for fourth, Franklin & Marshall (20) in sixth and Dickinson (5) in seventh.
Goucher produced the runner-up in two individual events and also in both of the relays. Dana Macaluso (Huntington, NY/Huntington) placed second in the 200-meter dash and she crossed the finish line in :26.95, and Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton) took second in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:11.27.
Macaluso and Newman-Blount were also on both of Goucher's relays that placed second. In the 4 x 100-yard event, they were joined by Dayna Mizzer (Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert) and Catherine Abbondanza (Yarmouth, ME/North Yarmouth Academy), and time that the foursome needed to complete the race (:51.71) is a new outdoor school record.
In the 4 x 400, Goucher's time was 4:23.48.
Mizzer placed third in the 100-meter hurdles, completing the event in :16.86, and J. Fraley Coles (The Plains, VA/Highland School) took third place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:34.04).
There were four fourth-place performances for Goucher: Newman-Blount in the 100-meter dash (:13.59), Mizzer in the high jump (4-feet, 6-inches), Abby Cooney (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) in the hammer throw (118-feet, 8-inches) and Abbondanza in the javelin (87-feet, 2-inches).
