CARLISLE, Pa. – Goucher had two individuals and one relay
place as high as third today at the DuCharme Invitational.
Sheba Newman-Blount Lanham, Md./Bishop Ireton) turned in the fastest time in the 55-meter dash trials and went on to finish in third place in the finals with a time of :07.79, which is the fifth-fastest for a female in the history of Goucher's indoor track and field program. Her time of :07.71 in the trials is the third-fastest in program history.
Newman-Blount also placed fifth in the 200-meter run (:29.56) and the triple jump (32-feet, 4.75-inches).
Newman-Blount wasn't Goucher's top performer in the 200. Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) also competed in that event and completed it in :29.29, good for third place.
Macaluso also placed fourth in the long jump (15-feet, 5-inches).
Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) was the fastest of the three Goucher runners enetred in the 400-meter run. She finished in sixth place with her time of 1:09.23. Kayla Prince (Randallstown, Md./Yeshivat Rambam) took sixth place for the Gophers in the shot put competition with her effort of 25-feet, 10.75-inches).
The foursome of Alex Collis (Glenside, Pa./Abington), Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), Biggers and Hannah Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) completed the distance medley relay in third place (16:02.12) and in the 4 x 400-meter relay, Macaluso, Newman-Blount, Biggers and Kanika Staten (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) posted a combined time of 4:38.39 to finish in fourth place.
