Koziel, Southworth Finish 1-3 in 1000 Meters
Newman-Blount Earns Points for Goucher in Three Events

CARLISLE, Pa. – Goucher produced the champion and third-place finisher in the 1,000-meter run at today's Valentine's Day Indoor Invitational.
Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 1000 meters, doing it in 3:41.84, which is the fifth-fastest time in that event in the history of Goucher's indoor track and field program. Hannah Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) placed third with her time of 3:59.01.
Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, Md./Bishop Ireton) earned points for Goucher in three events, one of which was a relay. The senior's top individual finish was in the triple jump where she placed fourth with her effort of 33-feet, 2-inches. In the 200-meter dash, she posted a time of :28.51, good for seventh place.
Newman-Blount also narrowly missed making the finals in the 55-meter dash. She turned in a time of :07.81 in the preliminaries to finish in ninth place, but needed a :07.75 to be one of the eight to advance to the finals.
Goucher's entry in the 4 x 200-meter relay comprised of Newman-Blount, Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland), Kanika Staten (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Dana Macaluso ( Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) placed fifth with its time of 1:58.05.
The Gophers picked up a total of 27 points to finish in 11th place in the final team scoring.
