Six Athletes Produce 26 Points in Five Events

CARLISLE, Pa. — Goucher earned enough points in just five
events today to finish in sixth place at the Dickinson
Invitational.
The 200-yard dash yielded 10 of the Gophers' final total of 26 points as Sarah Meade (Santa Fe, N.M./Monte Del Sol Charter School) secured eight points for a second-place finish and Kate Clarke (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II) picked up two points by coming in seventh. Meade completed the event in :28.69 and Clarke in :29.79.
The same two runners were entered in the 55-meter dash: Clarke posted the second-fastest time in the history of Goucher's women's indoor track and field program (:07.94) to finish in sixth place, earning three points, and Meade followed by 1-hundredth of a second in seventh place (two points).
In the 400, Kanika Staten (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Angela Buxton (Springfield, Mass./Central) were fourth and eighth, respectively. Staten was clocked at 1:16.39 (five points) and Buxton at 1:30.55 (one point).
The Gophers received another four points due to a fifth-place performance by Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) in the shot put (30-feet, 8.25-inches) and one for Barb Koziel (Holland, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) completing the 800 in 3:00.64, good for eighth place.
The team score of 26 left Goucher just one-half point behind Gettysburg in the final standings. The Gophers finished ahead of Kings (19 points) and McDaniel (10).
