Smith Breaks Program, Conference Records in 60 Dash

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — No female runner in the history of Goucher's indoor track and field program had ever completed the 60-meter dash in under eight seconds until Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) posted a time of :07.96 in the event's preliminaries at today's Bow-Tie Classic.

That stood up as the new school record only until the sophomore was clocked at :07.91 in the finals to finish as runner-up behind Zakiyyah Richardson from Gwynedd-Mercy. Richardson's winning time was :07.69.

Smith's time in the finals was also enough to break the Landmark Conference's 60-meter dash record by 5-hundredths of a second.

Smith earned eight points for Goucher for her second-place effort in the 60-meter dash and another for ending up in eighth place in the 200-meter dash with her time of :27.13. The nine points landed head coach John Caslin's Gophers in 14th place in the team scoring.

In Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) and Stephanie Correa (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Goucher had two hurdlers finish back-to-back in 17th and 18th place, respectively, in the 60-meter event. Granger registered a time of :10.92 and Correa followed in :11.28.
