CARLISLE, Pa. — Five different people scored for Goucher at this afternoon's DuCharme Invitational, led by a second-place 55-meter dash showing from Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) in her first meet of the season.
Smith's time of 7.65 in the finals was also the sixth-fastest recorded in program history. She was one of three student-athletes to crack the program's top-10 list today. The Gophers scored 27 points as a team, a total which was good enough for seventh place overall.
Soliana Goldrich (Cleveland, Ohio/Beachwood) and Rebecca Kotula (Fallston, Md./John Carroll School) joined Smith in the program record book. Goldrich completed the 1,000-meter run in 3:48.01, recording the eighth-fastest result all-time and placing fifth in her race this afternoon.
Kotula added four more points to Goucher's team score with a fifth place result in the pole vault. She cleared a top height of 2.15 meters (7'1/2"), the eighth-best result in Gopher history.
Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) and Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) accounted for Goucher's remaining individual points. Granger placed sixth after completing the 55-meter hurdles in 10.03, while Appiah-Padi also earned a sixth place result with a top throw of 9.67 meters (31'8 3/4") in the shot put.
The Gophers' 4x800 meter relay team of Kotula, Amanda Tascarella (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point), Brianna Hite (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) and Goldrich tallied the remaining five points after placing fourth with a time of 11:23.97.
In addition to her second place finish in the finals of the 55 dash, Smith posted a time of 7.67 in the preliminaries which was the seventh fastest in program history at that distance.
Messiah totaled 164 points to take first place at today's meet. Bridgewater (Va.) followed with 141 points, and host Dickinson finished third with 108.5 points.
Goucher returns to action next Saturday at the Susquehanna Invitational. That meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
