TOWSON, MD — Fraley Coles (The Plains,
VA/Highland School) broke the school record in the
5,000-meter run today at the Towson Invitational.
The junior completed the event in 19:19.84, good for fourth
place.
Coles also placed seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she
crossed the finish line in 12:28.77, which is the fourth-fastest
time in that event in the history of Goucher's women's track and
field program.
Sheba Newman-Blount (Lanham, MD/Bishop Ireton) was
the only other Goucher's athlete to finish as high as seventh place
in an individual event today. She qualified for the 100-meter dash
finals with a time of :13.67 in the trials, and then turned in a
time of :13.73 in the finals to capture seventh place.
Newman-Blount was also part of Goucher's 4 x 400-meter relay team
that finished in seventh place with a time of 4:22.01. Others who
took part in that event were Amy McLellan Brewster,
MA/Nauset Regional), Marisa Long (Hampton Bays,
NY/Sachem) and Rachel Boss (Keene,
NH/Keene).
There was no team scoring at the Towson Invitational.
