Goucher's 4 x 400 Relay Beats Out Moravian for First, Sets School Record
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher produced the first-place
finishers in a pair of individual events and one relay at the 2010
Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships,
conducted this weekend in Lopardo Stadium.
Crowned today as Landmark Conference champions were freshmen Sarah Meade (Santa Fe, N.M./Monte Del Sol Charter School) in the 400-meter dash and Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) in the 400-meter hurdles. Both set new outdoor school records with their winning times: :59.66 by Meade in the 400 dash and 1:05.14 by Kellon in the 400 hurdles. Kellon's time is also a new meet record for that event.
They are Goucher's first two conference champions in the sport of women's outdoor track and field since the formation of the Landmark Conference.
Kellon also secured points for the Gophers in the 100-meter hurdles as she crossed the finish line in :17.32, good for seventh place.
Goucher's entry in the 4 x 400-meter relay, which consisted of Meade, Kellon, Kate Clarke (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II) and Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), beat out Moravian for first place by :02.45. The foursome broke the school record with its winning time of 4:03.05.
Goucher was runner-up to Moravian in the 4 x 100-meter relay, but still set a new school record with its time of :50.32. Running for the Gophers in this event were Clarke, Meade, Marissa Copan (Golden, Colo./Golden) and Macaluso.
Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) broke a pair of school records today. One was in the 5,000-meter run where she took third place with her time of 19:09.08; the other was in the 1,500-meter run where she placed fourth overall (4:55.05).
Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) scored earned points toward Goucher's total in three throwing events: five points for placing fourth overall in the hammer throw (133-feet, 2-inches), four points for placing fifth in the shot put (33-feet, 6.75-inches) and another four points for fifth place in the discus throw (107-feet, 10-inches). The junior'e effort in the discus ranks as the second-best by a female thrower in the history of Goucher's outdoor track and field program.
In addition to running on both of the relays that secured points for Goucher, Macaluso helped the cause by placing sixth in the long jump (16-feet, 3-inches) and seventh in the 400 dash (1:03.77). Copan turned in a time of :13.29 in the 100-meter dash, good for eighth place.
