FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Goucher's Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) turned in the top performance by a collegian in the hammer throw and Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) took first place in the long jump at the Battleground Relays, a two-day meet that concluded today.

Cooney Turns In Top Collegiate Performance in Hammer Throw

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Goucher's Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) turned in the top performance by a collegian in the hammer throw and Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) took first place in the long jump at the Battleground Relays, a two-day meet that concluded today.
With her throw of 112-feet, 8-inches, Cooney placed behind only an unattached entrant in the hammer on Friday. Today, she placed fifth overall in both the discus (90-feet, 7-inches) and the shot put (30-feet, 11-inches).
Macaluso's winning effort in today's long jump competition was 15-feet, 5.5-inches.
Goucher had two relays place sixth or higher: the 4 x 400-meter unit of Macaluso, Kanika Staten (Columbia, Md./Long Reach), Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) and Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) finished fourth with its time of 4:33.36, and the same four runners posted a combined time of 2:09.71 to wind up in sixth place in the sprint medley relay.
