Gophers Score in 13 Events, Place Fourth at Goucher Classic

Goucher Produces First-Place Performer in Three Individual Events

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher scored 90 points in 13 different events to place fourth in a field of nine teams at today's Goucher Track & Field Classic.

One-third of the Gophers' point total was the result of first-place performances in three individual events: Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) in the 400-meter hurdles, Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) in the hammer throw and Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Kellon's time of 1:07.88 in the 400 hurdles provided her with a nearly two-second victory over Victoria Goodenough from Ursinus. Cooney beat out the eight other entrants for top honors in the hammer throw with an effort of 132-feet, 7-inches. Zidanic completed the steeplechase in 12:49.53, over 36 seconds ahead of Jordan Kellogg from Ursinus.

Goucher produced the runner-up in two events: Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community) placed second in the 1,500-meter run (5:03.90) and third in the 800-meter run (2:33.63); Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) was second in the 3,00 meters (11:35.02).

Burr wasn't the only Goucher runner to score in the 1500: Couraud secured three points for placing sixth in the event (5:15.61) and Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) added a point to the team total by placing eighth (5:22.24).

Two players scored for Goucher in the 5,000 meters: Hannah Southworth (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) picked up five points for a fourth-place finish (20:31.36) and Shea Staab (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was right behind in the fifth spot (20:33.77), good for four points.

Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) placed fourth in the long jump (15-feet, 3.5-inches). Fifth place went to Kellon in the 400-meter dash (1:01.60) and Zidanic in the 3,000-meter run (11:58.65); sixth place to Macaluso in the 200-meter dash (:28.21) and Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) in the 400 (1:02.17).

Goucher's entry consisting of Biggers, Macaluso, Kate Clarke (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II) and Kellon completed the 4 x 400-meter relay in 4:33.73, good for third place.
