Goucher Produces Champs in Four Individual Events
HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) accounted for one of the four first-place performances, one of the three seconds and the only third in individual events by Goucher athletes at today's Juniata Invitational.
Cooney Takes First Place in Hammer Throw, Second in Shot Put
HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Abby Cooney (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) accounted for one of the four first-place performances, one of the three seconds and the only third in individual events by Goucher athletes at today's Juniata Invitational.
The senior took top honors in the hammer throw where her best effort was 120-feet, 5-inches. She was runner-up in the shot put (32-feet, 3.75-inches) and third in the discus (99-feet, 7-inches).
The other first-place performances by Goucher athletes came from Dana Macaluso (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) in the long jump, Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) in the 5,000-meter run and Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) in the 400-meter hurdles. Macaluso turned in an effort of 16-feet, 2.5-inches to beat out the other five entrants in the long jump competition, while the winning times of Couraud in the 5,000 and Kellon in the 400 hurdles were 20:05.72 and 1:08.85, respectively.
Kate Clarke (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II) completed the 100-meter dash in :13.62, good for second place, and Taylor Burr (Addison, Maine/Maranacook Community) was runner-up in the 800 meters (2:31.03).
Caitlin Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) finished two spots behind Burr in fourth place in the 800 (2:32.67). Fourth is also where Couraud placed in the 3,000 meters (11:39.40) and Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) placed in the 1,500 meters (5:18.04).
The foursome of Clarke, Macaluso, Questina Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) and Kellon was clocked at :53.03 and took first place in the 4 x 100-meter relay, and Goucher's entry of Macaluso, Clarke, Biggers and Kellon was the first across the finish line in the 4 x 400-meter relay (4:22.16).
