Currier Sets New Outdoor School Record in Mile Run
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Nobody in the history of Goucher's women's outdoor track and field program ever ran a faster mile than Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) did today at the Mason-Dixon Invitational.
Smith Finishes as Runner-Up in 100 Dash, Seventh in 200
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Nobody in the history of Goucher's women's outdoor track and field program ever ran a faster mile than Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) did today at the Mason-Dixon Invitational.
The sophomore's time of 5:32.45, which was good for fifth place, bested the former standard set by current teammate Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) by over seven seconds.
Braving windy conditions, the Gophers had numerous other top-10 finshes at the multi-team invitational.
Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in a time of :13.46. The freshman's time of :28.47 was good enough for seventh in the 200.
Stephanie Correa (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Jewell Porter (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) participated in the 400 meter hurdles, posting strong times. Correa was fifth with a time of 1:13.91, with Porter two spots behind (1:17.51).
The relay group of Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel), Sara Aganovic (Pasadena, Md./McDonogh), Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) and Smith finished the 4x100-meter relay in fifth place and a time of :54.03.
In the 4 x 400 meter relay, Kellon, Granger, Correa and Porter finished sixth (4:48.38).
Goucher also found success in the field events.
In the triple jump, Agonovic finished in third with a distance of 33' 2". The freshman also was fifth in the long jump (14' 4.5").
Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) placed eighth in the shot put and ninth in the hammer, throwing 32' 4.75" and 101' 10", respectively.
Goucher finished the event in seventh place.
