Gophers Come Away with 14 Points in 5000-Meter Run

The highest-scoring event for the Gophers was the 5000 meters where Amanda Tascarella (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) placed second, earning eight points, and Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) and Jonelle Palmer (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg Academic Magnet) picked up four and two points, respectively. Tascarella completed the event in 20:36.87; Jorgensen followed in fourth place (23:16.36) and Palmer in fifth (24:16.00).
Goucher produced the runner-up in two other events: Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) in the hammer throw and Bri Prince (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) in the javelin. Appiah-Padi was credited with a best effort of 35.23 meters (115'7") in the hammer; Prince topped out at 23.97 meters (78'7") in the javelin.
Appiah-Padi also took third place in the discus throw at 25.22 meters (82'9") and fourth in the shot put at 10.00 meters (32'9 3/4"); Prince added fifth-place finishes in the shot at 9.86 meters (32'4 1/4") and the discus at 22.84 meters (74'11").
Katie Thompson (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) placed fourth in the javelin with a best effort of 19.90 meters (65'3").
Ellie Ginsberg (Ocean Twp., N.J./Ocean Twp.) was clocked at 2:39.54 in the 800 meters, good for third place. Soliana Goldrich (Cleveland, Ohio/Beachwood) and Annie Drascher (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) placed 3-4 in the 1500 meters with respective times of 5:55.17 and 6:08.59.
Laura Williams (Verona, N.J./Verona) cleared 1.35 meters (4'5") in the high jump to finish in six place.
