Appiah-Padi Wins Hammer with Throw of 37.04 Meters

The senior unleashed four throws that were better than any of the attempts by any of the other seven entrants. Her winning throw was 37.04 meters (121'6").
Appiah-Padi also took third place in the shot put with her effort of 10.23 meters (33'6 3/4") and sixth in the discus, which she hurled 23.84 meters (78'2"). Bri Prince (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) placed one spot behind her in the shot at 10.22 meters (33'6 1/2"), one spot in front of her in the discus at 23.92 meters (78'6") and in fifth place in the javelin throw at 23.73 meters (77'10").
Goucher produced the runner-up in four of the meet's 21 events: Monique Welch (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) in the 100-meter dash (:13.53), Amanda Tascarella (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) in the 3000 meters (11:50.94), Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.57) and Rebecca Kotula (Fallston, Md./John Carroll School) in the pole vault at 2.29 meters (7'6").
The Gophers actually achieved a 2-3-4 finish in the 3000 meters as Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) followed Tascarella across the finish line with her time of 12:33.76 and Jonelle Palmer (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg Academic Magnet) was fourth (13:40.83).
Granger also placed fourth overall in the 100-meter hurdles as she completed the event in 17.86 seconds.
Laura Williams (Verona, N.J./Verona) cleared 1.32 meters (4'4") on her third attempt to finish in fourth place in the high jump.
The Gophers, who finished in third place with a team score of 93 points, earned points in only one relay. An entry consisting of Granger, Soliana Goldrich (Cleveland, Ohio/Beachwood), Annie Drascher (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Kotula completed the 4 x 400-meter relay in 5:00.34, good for third place.
One week from today, the Gophers return to action at the Messiah Invitational.
