GRANTHAM, Pa. — Of the 36 competitors in the women's shot put at today's highly-competitive Messiah Invitational, only two placed higher than Goucher's Bri Prince (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh).
Prince managed a season-high toss of 11.57 meters (37'11 1/2") in the event. That distance is the fourth furthest in the Landmark this season, and it is tied for the sixth-furthest in school history. Only Gopher Hall of Famer Natalie Williams Brewer has topped the throw that Prince registered this afternoon.
In a meet which contained 23 teams, Goucher added six additional top 10 finishes. Two of those six came from Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area). The senior co-captain recorded a fifth place showing in the hammer toss. Her distance of 36 meters (108'1") was only 1.04 meters shy of her personal best which she established at last weekend's Goucher Track & Field Classic. Appiah-Padi also placed ninth in the shot put at 10.14 meters (33'3 1/4").
Another two top 10 results came through Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) in the hurdle events. Granger finished ninth in the 400 hurdles (1:16.32) and 10th in the 100 hurdles (17.73).
Amanda Tascarella (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) crossed the line in the 5,000 meter run in 20:52.16, a total which was good enough for 10th place. Rebecca Kotula (Fallston, Md./John Carroll School), meanwhile, placed seventh in the pole vault after clearing a height of 2.22 meters (7'3 1/4").
Goucher has two more meets scheduled prior to this year's Landmark Outdoor Championships on May 2-3. The first of those meets, the Mason-Dixon Invitational, will take place next Saturday in Gettysburg, Pa.
