WESTMINSTER, Md. — Goucher faced some stiff competition in its final tune-up prior to the Landmark Championships, competing mostly against runners from Division I Navy and nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins at tonight's McDaniel Twilight Meet.
Several Gophers were up to the challenge, as Monique Welch (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) and Brianna Hite (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) set new personal best times on the track while Bri Prince (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led the field performers with a second place showing in the shot put.
Welch lowered her PR in the 100-meter dash by 0.20 seconds, crossing the line in 13.14. That ranked her in second place, ahead of the two runners from Navy and only 0.02 behind Shantae Byro. Welch's time is the eighth-fastest by a Landmark runner this season. She also took 0.20 off her previous best in the 200 dash after completing that race in 27.54.
Hite, running in the 3000m steeplechase for the second time in her career, took 18 seconds off her previous time, clocking in at 13:17.88 this evening.
Prince continued her strong performances in the throwing events. Her top shot put toss of 11.33 meters beat out five other competitors, and it was her third best throw of the season. Prince also placed fifth in the discus (26.21 meters) and sixth in the javelin (20.95 meters).
Goucher now has 10 days off before the two-day Landmark Outdoor Championships begin at Susquehanna. A full meet schedule for the championships can be found here.
