Gophers Enjoy Two First-Place Finishes at Invitational

FROSTBURG, Md. — It was a strong day for Goucher at the Bobcat Invitational as the program notched two first-place finishes and a bevy of top-5 individual performances.
- Laura Williams (Verona, N.J./Verona) accounted for one of the first-place performances at the meet as she clocked a time of :17.27 in the 100-meter hurdles. She also tied for third in the high jump with her effort of 1.37 meters (4'6").
- Goucher's 4 x 100 relay entry capped off a strong day with the second and final top finish. The foursome of Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Preparatory School), Williams, Monique Welch (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) and Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) clocked a time of :53.32 in the event.
- Three teammates placed within 8-tenths of a second of each other in the 100-meter dash for the Gophers, which were all top-5 times. Smith finished second with a time of (:12.85) while Welch nabbed third (:13.19). Belin produced a fifth-place finish (:13.64).
- In the 200-meter dash, Smith recorded a time of :27.29, good for second place, and Welch finished sixth (:28.03).
- With a time of 1:16.84 in the 400-meter hurdles, Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) placed fourth.
- In the 1500-meter run, Kelly Johnson (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) notched a time of 5:27.53, good for fifth place.
- There was no team scoring.
Goucher looks ahead to Saturday when the tream travels to Grantham, Pa. to compete in the Messiah Invitational.
