100-Meter, 200-Meter Dash Records Belong to Smith
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Before the first Goucher runner competed today at the Mason-Dixon Invitational, the school record in the 100-meter dash stood at 12.65 seconds, it was set in 2012 and it belonged to Destiny Phillips. Over the course of the meet, however, the record was broken not once, not twice, but three times.

The first to do it was Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Preparatory School), who was clocked at :12.49 in the trials. Next was Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional), who posted a time of :12.44 in her trial.
In the finals, Smith claimed first place by crossing the finish line in 12.20 seconds. Her winning time was only 1-hundredth of a second off the Landmark Conference record (:12.19) established in 2014 by Brianna Wright from Moravian.
- Belin placed third in the 100-meter dash (:12.54) and Monique Welch (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) was fifth (:12.73).
- Smith also set a new school record in the 200-meter dash. She took first place in the event by completing it in 25.92 seconds. Welch was three spots behind her in fourth place (:26.61) and Belin wound up in sixth place (26.70).
- Belin, Welch, Laura Williams (Verona, N.J./Verona) and Smith formed the Goucher entry that placed first and set a new school record in the 4 x 100-meter relay. The foursome turned in a time of :49.95. In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Goucher took sixth place (4:35.90).
- Williams placed fifth overall in the 100-meter hurdles and seventh in the high jump. She was clocked at :17.02 in the hurdle event and logged a distance of 1.41 meters (4'7.50") in the jump.
- Amanda Tascarella (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) completed the mile in 5:34.49, good for fourth place. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Hannah Brogan (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was seventh (13:41.75; in the 400-meter hurdles, Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) was eighth (1:12.06).
The Gophers, who will compete at the Morgan State Legacy in Baltimore one week from today, placed fourth overall in the team scoring with a total of 65 points. They were just three points behind Dickinson and one in back of Catholic.
