Goucher's Entry Places Third in Heat at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Goucher's entry in the college women's 4 x 100-meter relay placed third in its heat, eighth among all entries from Division III institutions, and 69th overall today at the Penn Relay Carnival.

With Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Preparatory School) running the opening leg, the quartet completed the event in 50.25 seconds. The other three runners for Goucher were, in order: Monique Welch (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin), Laura Williams (Verona, N.J./Verona), and Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional).
The top Division III entry in the field of 85 was from Wesley and it finished in 37th place with a time of :47.92.
Tennessee recorded the fastest time in the event as its fourth runner crossed the finish line in 44.50 seconds. Oregon (:44.76) and Auburn (:45.50) followed in second and third place, respectively.
In the heat Goucher was placed, only a pair of Division II schools finished ahead of the Gophers: Bloomsburg was clocked at :49.49, good for first place, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (:50.02).
Next up for head coach John Caslin's squad is the 2016 Landmark Conference Outdoor Women's Track & Field Championships in Huntingdon, Pa., next weekend.
