De Vries Breaks 14-Year-Old Record at Morgan State Legacy Meet
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers traveled to Morgan State University to compete in the Legacy Meet. The first day of the meet was highlighted by multiple personal records and a broken school record.
Day one of the Legacy Meet featured the first half of the field events. Freshman AaShyah De Vries recorded a personal best of 32.73 meters on her third attempt in the javelin throw. Her mark earned her a fifth-place finish and set a new school record, breaking the previous record of 30.92 meters that had stood for 14 years. Ja'Kiya Allen also recorded a top-15 finish in the hammer throw, after posting a personal-best throw of 35.20 meters. Allen opened with a throw of 34.32 meters on her first attempt before improving to 35.20 meters on her third attempt. Allen also finished 18th in the Javelin throw, with a season-best throw of 20.14 meters. Marissa Heil rounded out the Gophers in the javelin throw, recording a personal best of 19.37 meters and earning a top-20 finish.
The Gophers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 18th, for day two of the Morgan State University Legacy Meet.
