TOWSON, Md. — Goucher split a pair of matches today to finish in fourth place with a 1-3 record over the two-day Goucher Family Weekend Tournament.
In the first of today's two matches, sophomore outside hitter Ashley Fan (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) contributed 11 kills and 16 digs as head coach Michael Bossom's Gophers turned back Lancaster Bible in four sets. Set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 14-25, 25-23.
Senior setter Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Delhi, India/American Embassy School) was credited with 31 assists against the Chargers (11-15).
Today's second match was against Stevenson and the Mustangs (19-4) downed the Gophers (5-15) for the second time in 2010, again in four sets. Set scores were 21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 27-25.
Although not one Goucher player reached double figures in kills against Stevenson, three did in digs: Fan had 25, senior opposite hitter Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) had 19 and Sauvage-Mar had 18.
Goucher's first match of the tournament was against Marymount, a team the Gophers defeated back on Sept. 7 in four sets (25-20, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17). This time, however, the Saints prevailed 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20).
Freshman outside hitter Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) supplied the Gophers with 10 kills and 13 digs against the Saints (7-13).
Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham went 4-0 to emerge as the tournament champion. The Devils (20-6) turned back the Gophers, 3-0, Friday night. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 26-24.
