Kallis Earns Spot on All-Tournament Team with 27-Kill, 22-Block Effort
UNION, N.J. — Only one of the four matches Goucher was involved in this weekend at the Cougar Classic was over in three sets. Unfortunately the outcome was the same all four times as the Gophers bowed to Ithaca in three sets and to Southern Vermont, Kean and Philadelphia Biblical in four.
Goucher's opening match of the tournament on Friday was against Southern Vermont, which went on to capture the team title. The Gophers were one of only two teams to take at least one set from the Mountaineers (11-2), but they suffered a 3-1 setback. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 25-13.
The three-set match against Ithaca was next and the Bombers (5-5) prevailed 25-11, 25-10, 25-22 as the Gophers were hindered by a -.025 attack percentage.
In the two matches played today, head coach Michael Bossom's squad bowed 20-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 to the Cougars (4-8) and 25-12, 25-6, 29-31, 25-20 to the Crimson Eagles (6-7).
Trish Kallis (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was Goucher's only selection to the all-tournament team. The sophomore middle hitter totaled 27 kills and 22 blocks during the four matches. She leads the Gophers (4-9) in blocks this season with 64 blocks.
Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) averaged 2.13 kills per set at the tournament
