3-1 Loss to Golden Eagles Concludes Tournament for Hosts

Junior OH Represents Goucher on All-Tournament Team

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher went 0-3 in pool play and then bowed to Brockport, the fourth-place team in the opposite pool, this weekend at the 2012 Greg "Gio" Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament for which it served as the host.

In pool play Saturday, the Gophers were beaten by Hiram, 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-18, 25-11), and Johns Hopkins, 3-0 (25-12, 25-6, 25-13).

Against the Terriers (1-0), junior outside hitter Megan Chalk (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was credited with 16 kills and freshman setter Sarah Johnson (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) with 29 assists. Chalk, freshman outside hitter Sami Kennelly (Howell, N.J./Howell) and senior libero Ashley Fan (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) recorded 10 digs apiece.

Six was the most kills any Goucher player managed in the match against the Blue Jays (2-0) and the team's attack percentage was only .014.

In their final match during pool play today, the Gophers were pitted against Cabrini. The Cavaliers (1-2) prevailed 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-23) to place third in the pool.

The first two sets against Brockport were close, but the only way the Gophers were able to extend the match was to hit .409 as a team in winning the third set. Eventually, however, the Golden Eagles (1-3) came out on top, 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22).

Chalk was Goucher's only representative on the all-tournament team. In the four matches, she supplied the Gophers (0-4) with 37 kills and 26 digs.
