TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore attacker Greta Coss (Bowie, Md.) of the Goucher College volleyball team slammed home a school-record (in a three-set match) 25 kills on the night, as the Gophers coasted past visiting Wesley, 3-0, on Wednesday night in the team's 2018 finale inside the Decker SRC Arena.
With the win - which Goucher captured by scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-19 - the Gophers improved to 13-14 on the year. The 13 victories are the most in a campaign for Goucher since the 2009 season, where the Gophers captured 17 games.
Wesley fell to 13-16 on the year with the defeat.
In the victory, Coss was dominant on the attack, as she etched her name into the school record book with her performance. The 25-kill performance breaks the previous three-set kills record, which had stood for almost 20 years (22 by Kim Opdyke in 1999).
Coss also hit .400 in the victory (a season-best), while also posting 10 digs and a service ace, as well.
Elsewhere on the night, sophomore Bianca Brown (New Brunswick, N.J.) and first-year Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii) had eight kills, apiece, as first-year Tes DeJaeger continued her great season setting up the attack with 43 assists (to go along with 11 digs).
Rounding out the top performances on the night was first-year libero Cat Hartley (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who led the defense with 24 digs in the win, which was the sixth of the season for the Gophers inside the Decker SRC Arena.
The Goucher College volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, finishing up their 2018 season with a pair of Landmark Conference games at Moravian. The Gophers open the day with a match against Susquehanna at 1:30 p.m., then take on the host Greyhounds in the nightcap at 6:30 p.m.
